Jean Baptiste Marc Bourgery's Atlas of Anatomy is a monumental work in medical history, recognized as one of the most comprehensive and beautifully illustrated anatomical treatises ever published. Bourgery commenced this ambitious project in 1830, collaborating with illustrator Nicolas Henri Jacob, a student of Jacques Louis David. The atlas, completed over nearly two decades, covers descriptive anatomy, surgical anatomy and techniques, general anatomy, embryology, and microscopic anatomy. Jacob's hand-colored lithographs are celebrated for their clarity, color, and aesthetic appeal, derived from direct observation and research.
