Frederic Chaubin, 2011
Photographer Frederic Chaubin presents 90 buildings from fourteen former Soviet Republics, representing what he terms the fourth age of Soviet architecture. His photographs capture an emergent, imaginative spirit that flourished between 1970 and 1990. Unlike earlier periods, this era lacked a dominant architectural school, instead showcasing a chaotic impulse born from a decaying system. The sheer diversity of these structures foreshadowed the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
