Joel Chandler Harris
Joel Chandler Harris, an American journalist and folklorist, created the character of Uncle Remus while working for a newspaper. His humorous notes on rural life were so well-received that Harris began publishing old tales and songs of enslaved African Americans. The book "Uncle Remus, His Songs and His Sayings" became an instant bestseller and was reissued many times. In total, Harris wrote about two hundred stories told by Uncle Remus, featuring the adventures of Br'er Rabbit, Br'er Fox, and their friends. These kind tales, filled with humor and practical wisdom, have been translated into numerous languages.
