Lyubov Popova, 2017
Lyubov Popova was born at the Krasnovidovo estate in Moscow province. She studied in Moscow artists' studios, including Vladimir Tatlin's, as well as in Paris and Italy, and traveled extensively across Russia and Europe. Following her engagement with cubofuturism and cubism, Popova developed a personal form of non-objective art that merged the flatness and linearity of ancient Russian painting with suprematist methods. From 1921, she shifted to designing women's clothing, creating fabric patterns for the First Calico Printing Factory, and polygraphic work. Popova's fabric drawings stand out for their variety of forms and rhythms, highlighting her status in the Russian avant-garde.
