Ilya Kochergin, born in Moscow in 1970, studied at the Institute of Asian and African Countries and the Literary Institute, later worked as a forester in the Altai reserve and now lives in the Ryazan region. The novel follows a couple who abandon the city for a remote wilderness, building a house by hand and rescuing an old horse named Fenya. As seasons change, the COVID‑19 pandemic sweeps through, and the year 2022 passes, Fenya becomes the focal point of a small universe, guiding the protagonists toward a "spare exit" from their troubles. The story blends personal survival, ecological reflection, and the search for meaning in contemporary Russia.
