Vladimir Aleksandrovich Zhitomirsky, 2020, Series: Front Diary
This book focuses on graphic artist Alexander Zhitomirsky, renowned for his political photomontages. During the war against fascism, his works were printed on leaflets targeting enemy soldiers, serving as a 'pass to captivity.' The German command banned the collection of these leaflets, and their possession after the Battle of Stalingrad was punishable by execution. Propaganda Minister Goebbels, informed by his agents, listed Zhitomirsky as his third personal enemy, after Levitan and Ehrenburg, with orders to 'find and hang.' The artist worked under extreme conditions, dedicating all his energy to propaganda. To maintain his mental balance, he kept a diary, recalling his pre-war past on one page and sketching illustrations on the other. This diary formed the basis for the book written by his son.
