Pavel Sudoplatov was a legendary Soviet intelligence officer who personally eliminated the head of the Ukrainian Nationalist Organization, coordinated the operation that killed Trotsky, and directed NKVD‑NKGB espionage and sabotage behind enemy lines during the Great Patriotic War. He later crushed the post‑war Bandera underground and took part in a mission to steal American atomic secrets. After Stalin's death he was labeled an "enemy of the people" and spent fifteen years in labor camps.
