Основное внимание уделено ходу противостояния зимой 1953/54 г., этапам сражения с марта по май 1954 г. и его результатам. Анализируются аспекты комплектования, подготовки и материально-технического обеспечения Вьетнамской народной армии, а также участие формирований Иностранного легиона. Особое место занимают международные вопросы, включая политику США и Великобритании, сотрудничество ДРВ и КНР, и влияние битвы на завершение колониальной войны.

This book by historian V.V. Ivanov analyzes the key stages and outcomes of one of the most significant battles of the French colonial war in Indochina (1946–1954) – the Battle of Dien Bien Phu. The author examines the preparation of the French Expeditionary Corps and the Vietnamese People's Army for control over Northwest Vietnam and Upper Laos. The core content details the confrontation during the winter of 1953/54, the phases of the Dien Bien Phu battle from March to May 1954, and its results. Aspects of recruitment, combat and political training, and logistics for the Vietnamese People's Army are discussed. The book also provides a comprehensive analysis of the participation of French Foreign Legion units. Special attention is given to international issues of the period, including US and UK policies, cooperation between the DRV and PRC, and the battle's impact on the conclusion of the colonial war.
