The year is 1933. The Nizhniy-Polye region is in turmoil, with growing popular discontent and widespread hunger. Peasants suffer from malnutrition and exhaustion, leading to incidents of theft and even cannibalism. This unrest stems from the confiscation of food supplies under the orders of Golovchenko, the head of the regional party committee's agricultural department, whose whereabouts are now unknown. A group of OGPU secret police officers is tasked with a dangerous operation to apprehend the fugitive official. However, the most significant threat proves to be unexpected.
