This book recounts the untold story of Witold Pilecki, a pivotal figure in World War II. In 1940, following the Nazi occupation of Poland, Pilecki accepted a dangerous mission to infiltrate a new concentration camp on the Reich's border. His objective was to gather intelligence on Nazi atrocities and organize a secret resistance army within the camp, known as Auschwitz. Upon arrival, he began to uncover the horrific scale of Nazi plans.
For over two and a half years, Pilecki built an underground network, smuggling vital evidence of Nazi crimes out of Auschwitz. His detailed reports were instrumental in shaping the Allied response to the Holocaust. Despite his extraordinary bravery and efforts, his story remained largely forgotten for decades. This account draws on exclusive family archives and recently declassified documents to illuminate his remarkable journey and the lives he saved.
