After a life-altering precognitive dream, psychology professor Laurel MacDonald seeks a new beginning at Duke University. Her research leads her to the historical Rhine parapsychology experiments, aiming to validate the existence of ESP. She becomes engrossed in old case files, particularly a 1965 investigation into a reportedly haunted mansion.
Intrigued, Laurel and a colleague, along with two gifted students, decide to recreate the original investigation within the abandoned estate. They are unaware of the tragic fate that befell the initial research team, who were driven to insanity or met their demise.
