In 1845, young researcher Eliot Saxby joins an Arctic expedition aboard a hunting ship, seeking the extinct Great Auk. The journey into the remote Arctic sea becomes a complex entanglement of relationships among the ship's crew and passengers. Eliot grapples with the motivations of the enigmatic Captain Sykes, the silent First Mate French, and the flamboyant Bletchley, particularly his beautiful but peculiar cousin, Clara. As the ship ventures deeper into the wilderness, Eliot struggles to hold onto his convictions while being drawn back into his own haunting past, desperate to save Clara.
