This four-part epic chronicles the ambitious journey of the aristocratic Berrybender family from England to the American West in 1830. As the frontier begins to open, the family, accompanied by retainers, intends to travel up the Missouri and settle in Texas. Their plans shift as young Tasmin's relationship with frontiersman Jim Snow draws them deeper into the wilderness. Facing challenges from Native Americans, pioneers, and mountain men, Tasmin eventually takes command of their fate.
