Tatiana Leontyeva, who debuted in 2016 with the novel "One and a Half Kilograms of Salt," presents a collection of short stories written over the past eight years. After moving from the provinces to St. Petersburg in the early 2000s, the narrator encounters a diverse cast: city dwellers and newcomers, millionaires and the homeless, students and marginal figures, eccentrics and ordinary people. Each story follows these characters in their relentless pursuit of love, friendship, understanding, freedom, success and respect, revealing their fates through precise details. Leontyeva’s realistic mini‑prose avoids trendy affectations; its strength lies in concise, clear language and vivid imagery, where tragedy sits beside humor, often provoking both laughter and a sharp sense of existential truth.
