Материалы были собраны в середине XIX века южнославянским учёным Стефаном Ильичом Верковичем в Родопах. Часть этих песен ранее была опубликована на болгаро-помакском языке в труде «Веда словена».

This book follows the tradition associated with the "Book of Veles." It presents Russian translations of Vedic legends and songs. The materials were collected in the mid-19th century by the South Slavic scholar Stefan Ilyich Verkovich in the Rhodopes. Some of these songs were previously published in the Bulgaro-Pomac language in the work "Veda Slovena." This edition includes songs from a third volume that remained unpublished in the 19th century.
