The novel tells the story of Rezi and Sven, whose youthful ideals of equality and a just world clashed with the reality of the 1980s in Germany. Against the backdrop of these hopes collapsing, coinciding with the dissolution of the USSR, Rezi reconsiders the past. She addresses her eldest daughter, Bea, to recount her youthful dreams, married and parental routines, friendship and money, and the process of overcoming shame and accusations, becoming the narrator of her own life.
