Egon Schiele (1890–1918) was a leading figure of Austrian Expressionism, known for his graphic style and distorted figures. Mentored by Gustav Klimt, Schiele moved from Art Nouveau to a more confrontational aesthetic characterized by sharp lines and elongated forms. His portraits and self-portraits conveyed intense psychological and sexual themes, often depicting unsettling poses. While controversial in his time, leading to a brief imprisonment for obscenity, his work is now celebrated for its revolutionary approach to the human figure and fervent draughtsmanship.
