Каталог посвящен первой в России выставке работ Роберто Матта (1911-2002), одного из последних мастеров сюрреализма. В книгу вошли более 60 работ, демонстрирующих уникальное понимание пространства художником, а также эволюцию его творчества. Матта, космополит по происхождению, сумел найти собственное видение мира через призму четвертого измерения и перенести его на холст.
Влияние на творчество Матты оказали идеи неевклидовой геометрии и труды русского философа Петра Успенского, теоретика четвертого измерения. Матта разделял убеждение Успенского в том, что четвертое измерение добавляет к третьему измерению ощущение пространства, движения и времени, необходимое для осознания постоянного и необратимого процесса изменений в мире.

This catalogue accompanies the first exhibition in Russia dedicated to the works of Roberto Matta (1911-2002), one of the last great Surrealist masters. The volume features over 60 works, showcasing Matta's unique understanding of space and the evolution of his artistic vision. Matta, a cosmopolitan artist with Spanish, Basque, and French roots, lived and worked across South America, Europe, and the United States, developing a distinctive style that explored the concept of the fourth dimension.
Influenced by non-Euclidean geometry and the ideas of Russian philosopher Peter D. Ouspensky, Matta sought to represent structures built in his mind, creating spaces beyond conventional perspective. He embraced Ouspensky's notion that the fourth dimension adds a sense of space, motion, and time to the third dimension, essential for understanding the constant and irreversible changes in the world.
