"The Legend is Fresh," written in 1962 but published 35 years later, chronicles the life of Konstantin Levin, a contemporary of the revolution. His fate is deeply intertwined with the nation's tragic historical events: his mother's experience of a pogrom, the civil war, Stalinist repressions, the Great Patriotic War, the Siege of Leningrad, and post-war persecutions. Yet, the novel primarily celebrates love, friendship, family, loyalty, and human courage.
