Five years after the events of "Chronicles of the Unwritten Throne," the Annurian Empire teeters on the brink of collapse. Weakened by war and internal unrest, it is losing its elite military units and magical travel gates. The Emperor dispatches an expedition to find the legendary nesting grounds of war hawks to restore military power. The journey leads through dangerous lands where life is distorted. Meanwhile, a monk arrives at the palace, claiming to know the key to the gates, but his knowledge comes at a steep price.
