Set in 1940, as German troops triumphantly enter Paris and the Reich anticipates global dominance, carpenter Otto Quangel receives news of his only son's death. In this atmosphere, challenging the regime is an act of a hero, a madman, or someone with nothing left to lose. Quangel, along with his wife Anna, begins a clandestine war against Nazism by writing and distributing anti-regime postcards. However, their compatriots are paralyzed by fear, unwilling to heed the call for truth. This story is based on the real postcards found in Gestapo archives.
