This collection features works by five St. Petersburg poets—Ippolit Matveev, Denis Veselov, Petr Klenov, Ivan Vasilyev, and German Krasovskiy. All authors are united not only by their affiliation with the St. Petersburg poetic school but also by their admiration for the poignant beauty of the world, the mystery of nature, and the incomprehensibility of Woman. In their search for ideals, they travel through the history and culture of humanity, encountering Roman, Greek, French, and German gods, writers, artists, and other poets. Quotes from these figures are scattered throughout the book like diamonds in the sky. Eros and Thanatos walk hand in hand. Earthly love transforms into heavenly, and heavenly becomes earthly. The mystery of life and death beats like a pulse in these lines, creating an echo of past and future feelings.
