M.C. Escher (1898–1972)
Dutch artist M. C. Escher developed a distinctive graphic style characterized by patterns, mathematical puzzles, and optical illusions. His intricate work, often exploring tessellations and impossible structures, captivated both mathematicians and art enthusiasts. Inspired by the Moorish architecture of the Alhambra Palace, Escher focused on the relationships between shapes, figures, and space. Working primarily with lithographs and woodcuts, he created mind-bending images that play with perception and the transition from flatness to volume.
