Lyubostay is a novel of doubt, where everything is subject to revision. It recreates the mood on the eve of Perestroika, which soon led to the collapse of Soviet civilization. The novel reflects the spiritual activity of the Russian intelligentsia, intensely contemplating questions of Faith, Soul, and the Divine. The narrative unfolds in both the capital and the countryside, centering on the spiritual and moral quests of the protagonist, successful writer Alexey Burnashov. He unexpectedly decides to leave his familiar life, departing Moscow for the rural depths in an attempt to find peace of mind with his young wife.
