This volume examines Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov’s stay in the North Caucasus and the creative history of his Caucasian works. It traces the poet’s involvement in the Caucasian War, his acquaintance with A.P. Ermolov, and the unrealized novel concept about him. The book also explores the depiction of highland peoples as heroes in Lermontov’s literature and the history of memorable sites in the Caucasian Mineral Waters. Based on documentary sources, the narrative situates Lermontov’s output within a broad literary, historical and ethnographic context, revealing many forgotten or little‑known aspects of Caucasian antiquity.
