A brilliant draftsman, landscape, and portrait artist, Somov was deeply rooted in the fin de siècle aesthetic with its mysticism, decadence, and eroticism, rightfully being one of its trendsetters. His name is inextricably linked with retrospectivism and the rococo image, presented with inventive fantasy, ironic grotesque, and sensual undertones.
