Set in 17th-century Iceland, the story begins in a seminary in the southern part of the country. Here, boys from good families study languages, rhetoric, and theology, while secretly learning the art of galdr, or sorcery. Three friends discover that an old man buried in the church cemetery possessed the legendary grimoire "Grey Skin." Ambitious and eager to test their skills, the youths sneak into the cemetery at night, inadvertently raising not one, but an entire horde of the dead. This atmospheric tale is based on folklore texts about the Reverend Eirik Magnusson, a priest and sorcerer.
