Frida Kahlo (1907–54), 2015, Basic Art Series
Frida Kahlo transformed personal trauma into revolutionary art. Following a near-fatal accident, health issues, and a turbulent marriage, she channeled her experiences into powerful self-portraits. Her work blends surreal and real elements, using imagery of hair, roots, and vines to express her life. Kahlo's art also reflected her Communist political ideals. She described her paintings as the most sincere expression of her inner and outer self.
