Jones's Iconotypes presents finely delineated paintings of over 760 Lepidoptera species, many described for the first time, marking a significant moment in natural history studies. This publication offers Jones's seminal work for the first time, enhanced with expert commentary, contextual essays, and annotated maps detailing species locations. The paintings were created between the early 1780s and 1800, drawing from extensive collections and providing species names, collection sources, and geographical origins. Johann Christian Fabricius notably based 231 species on these paintings in 1787.
