Stanley Yelnats' family is known for its bad luck. When he is wrongly convicted, he is sent to Camp Green Lake Juvenile Detention Centre. Despite its name, the camp is neither green nor does it have a lake. Every day, the inmates are made to dig a hole five feet wide and five feet deep, reporting any objects they find. The warden claims this is for character building, but Stanley suspects otherwise and must uncover the truth.
