The narrator’s childhood friend Grom has turned into a spoiled, dangerous bully who returns to his hometown with a single, ruthless goal: to win the narrator’s sister at any cost. Using blackmail, he forces the protagonist to help retrieve Lola, while simultaneously betraying him in the most intimate way—kissing him in front of his sister. This act shatters the narrator’s life and destroys the remnants of their former friendship. The novel explores themes of betrayal, obsessive love, and the violent clash between past innocence and present cruelty, all set in a contemporary Russian backdrop.
