This work provides a significant sociological analysis of Hui Muslims in contemporary China. It contrasts the urban lives of the Han majority with the Hui minority in Lanzhou, drawing on fieldwork conducted between 2001 and 2004. The study assesses the relationship between minority ethnicity and traditional behaviors within urban sociology and research on Chinese ethnic groups. It offers a fresh perspective on ethnic behavior through in-depth interviews and survey data.
