In the slums of Victorian London, young Lilly Millington, orphaned and living as a street thief, finds her life transformed after meeting artist Richard Radcliffe. She becomes his model and muse. Together with friends, they spend the summer of 1862 in an old mansion. Their idyllic existence shatters due to a catastrophe that results in one woman's death and another's disappearance. Over 150 years later, an old sketchbook and a portrait of an unknown woman shed light on past events.
