Every autumn, John Pentecost returns to the farm where he grew up, helping his family bring sheep from the moors for the winter. Little changes in the remote village, but this year John's grandfather dies, and his wife Kate arrives at the farm for the first time. The people of Endlands protect their land from the cunning Devil using stories and ancient rituals. But while the farmers are busy with their tasks, the Devil approaches much closer than they think.
