Samuel Beckett - 2019
"Dante and the Lobster" is the initial linked short story within Samuel Beckett's debut collection, "More Pricks Than Kicks." Published in 1934, its style bore the clear influence of his mentor, James Joyce, rich with linguistic texture and allusions that Beckett would later move away from. The book presented challenges to many critics and achieved low sales, leading to several batches being pulped. However, this story has since been recognized as the Nobel laureate's earliest significant work.
