Wolfgang Streeck, 2014
The book examines the ongoing global impact of the financial and economic crisis that began in 2008. Drawing on his 2012 Adorno Lectures, Wolfgang Streeck contextualizes the crisis within the long neoliberal transformation of postwar capitalism since the 1970s. It analyzes the resulting tensions between states, governments, voters, and capitalist interests, manifesting in inflation, public debt, and private indebtedness. The analysis traces the evolution from a tax state to a debt state, and finally to the current consolidation state.
