The documentary novel "Blessed Are the Pure in Heart" plunges the reader into the profound reality of Russia between 1905 and 1925, unveiling the intricate destinies of its many protagonists. The narrative is uniquely composed from authentic diaries, poems, letters, and memoirs penned by both adults and children of the era. A pivotal event within the story is the establishment in famine-stricken 1920 of one of Russia's pioneering school-colonies, offering refuge to children from diverse backgrounds who sought to escape the era's devastation. Within this community, these once-ostracized children collaboratively labor, acquire education, and even establish a primary school for local village children. Alena Davidovna Armand, the author and granddaughter of the main heroine (and daughter of one of the school's pupils), meticulously reconstructed this grand historical tapestry from miraculously preserved, semi-decayed documents.
