This picture book envisions a world where boys are encouraged to openly express their full range of emotions. The story follows Levi on his first day at a new school, where he feels scared. His father's attempt to comfort him with the phrase 'Big boys don't cry' highlights a common parental misstep. Throughout his walk to school, Levi observes men openly expressing sadness and fear, gradually weakening his ingrained belief. By the time he reaches school, he is able to shed a tear, finding that the experience is not as daunting as he feared.
