Gotham police detectives Corrigan and Martinez are ambushed on one of Gotham's dark streets. There, the partners find a fresh corpse and become victims of an attack by mysterious figures in green robes. The servants of the mysterious cult kill Martinez and take James Corrigan with them — the bearer of the Spectre, the spirit of divine retribution. To help the spirit return its bearer, Batman must use his talent as the world's greatest detective.
