To write about the Great Patriotic War today is a daunting task. So much has already been written and told, and so few living witnesses remain. To write about it for teenagers is doubly challenging. It seems that today’s youth are interested in entirely different things… But it turns out, they are not.

Teenagers themselves awarded this book first place in the All-Russian Kniguru literary competition for children and young adults, responding to its poignant story with incredible intensity. Complex and multifaceted, it doesn’t shy away from difficult emotions, turning the soul inside out, but simultaneously compelling a deeper understanding and empathy for the harsh realities of war.

The meticulous Kovalets, smoothing his hair with a dandy’s comb, yet a courageous and desperate warrior. And Shurik, nicknamed Shchuryy, dreaming of finally getting his first pistol…

The 20th century closed its doors, taking with it millions of lives sacrificed on the battlefields of countless wars. But through the smoke of battle, through the haze of time, Sanich, Kovalets, Alka, and many others look at us. Who are they? It’s hard to say definitively. One thing is clear: they are all the Cloud Regiment.
